Navigating the Challenging Emotions

Ashlee Langas

As a culture we've taken the spectrum of human emotions and categorized them into "good" emotions and "bad" emotions. Of course there are certain feelings that are far more enjoyable to experience, but in casting judgement on the different things we feel, we are often led to suppress, avoid, or shame our personal experiences.

When anxiety, sadness, anger, grief or fear come into our lives they bring an opportunity for us to expand our capacity for compassion, empathy, and bravery. Rather than attempting to suppress or eliminate our raw emotions, we can make space for them. As we deepen our capacity for the challenging emotions, we also expand our capacity for the joyous ones. As we stop fighting back the feelings that we are afraid of, we free up a wave of powerful energy that can be used to create and connect.

Our ability to feel is our greatest gift as humans, and in challenging times it shapes us into skilled sailors- seasoned souls able to offer great wisdom and guidance to others.

Where can you soften into a challenging emotion you've been resisting? What does it feel like to surrender into the very thing you've been fighting?

MANTRA: I open my heart to EVERY feeling, knowing that they only ever expand my capacity to love.
