I have been making my way through Greg McKeown’s 'Essentialism' and it has sparked lots of things in my life and business that I am yearning to implement.
One chapter specifically was about how important play is in our lives, jobs and relationships. We are trained from a very young age that learning should be serious, and before we know it all of the fun has been sucked out of our lives. I am definitely guilty of it. As the oldest of 4 kids I felt pressure very early on to be responsible, and that didn’t leave a hell of a lot of room to just be a messy, care-free little being.
I can catch myself now when I start to feel life getting heavy and I try to tap into that inner, playful child. I put on music that makes my heart feel light. I have a dance party by myself. I go on an adventure with my partner. I color a pretty picture in my coloring book. Slow down, get curious about what makes you feel lighter. What does your heart desire right now in this moment? How can you learn through play and exploration? Get creative. Go play!
MANTRA: Play is just as vital as work. I am willing to explore how playfulness can be woven into my life in big and small ways!
